The grade II listed Octagon at Queen Mary has proved once again it is the ideal facility for filming. The new series of Channel 4’s ‘Child Genius’ (which was broadcast from the 11th June to 9th July (see 4oD to 'catch up')) used the spectacular former library earlier this year as the ‘competition’ venue in the latest series.

The Channel 4 show, produced by Wall to Wall media is a documentary series following the lives of some of the country’s cleverest children and their families. Most with IQs in the top 0.1% of the population, growing up gifted can have its challenges. But behind many a Child Genius, there’s often a determined parent, and this series reveals the different approaches to parenting a child whose intelligence is off the scale.

Louise Murray, Production Manager for Wall to Wall comments ‘Child Genius filmed in the Octagon at Queen Mary over four separate weekends in February and March – the venue worked well with the style of programme and the hospitality team were a great assistance throughout.’

Sue Mussett, Business Development Manager for Events & Hospitality QM notes ‘We are pleased with the growing recognition and reputation of our facilities for filming, the Octagon has hosted the BBC’s Question Time and Free Speech programmes - alongside Child Genius, while other facilities have featured in ‘Twenty Twelve’ and most recently ITV’s ‘The Job Lot’.
