QM GREAT HALL PROVES TO BE A ROARING SUCCESS!

Thursday 19 June 2014

The iconic art-deco Great Hall at Queen Mary University of London hosted its first major live concert, following the hall’s £6.3 million refurbishment on the 1st May with a show from Damon Albarn and his band The Heavy Seas.

The multi-purpose Great Hall reopened in 2013 and features a unique marriage of art-deco styling with state-of-the-art sound, lighting and audio-visual system.

One month on, feedback from some of the thousand-strong people in attendance at the event on the quality of the venue has been first class, with Gareth Cheesman on Twitter describing the venue as ‘brilliant….just the right size for (a) good crowd but still close to the action’ with Sam Instone, also on Twitter noting ‘the venue was great, sitting down meant no difference at all’ with both agreeing they would return for future gigs.

George Foden spokesperson for Events & Hospitality QM (Queen Mary’s hospitality brand) comments ‘With a long history of hosting live concerts during the 70s and 80s, we’re delighted the Great Hall is now making a welcome return to east London’s thriving live music scene. Thanks to the investment we’ve made in the venue, especially in the high-specification sound and lighting equipment, we’re confident the Great Hall will be hosting many more high profile artists and bands in the future.’
