To reach this stage, the venue has already provided information on the facilities and services offered to support those seeking to get married or hold their Reception, and from this it has been independently reviewed by a panel of industry judges to reach the shortlist. It is now over to the public via Hitched and You and Your Wedding Magazine to vote across the various categories with the results announced in early March (voting closes on the 17th February).

Queen Mary University of London has been holding wedding receptions since 2012 and has been licensed for ceremonies since 2016. The weddings offer was fully relaunched to market in 2017 as Weddings at QMUL and holds approximately 15 receptions and 4 ceremonies each year currently.

Commenting on the shortlisting, Paul Brown, Commercial Sales and Events Manager notes ‘We are delighted to be shortlisted in the Best Historic Wedding Venue category of the UK Wedding Awards 2019; we know we have fantastic grade II listed space in the Octagon and Queens’ Building and that although the space has previously been hidden in the market, it is now widely visible and is gaining a growing reputation. We find that once visited, as well as providing an enchanting backdrop, the Octagon is fallen in love with as a place to celebrate union.’

Weddings at QMUL is one part of the commercial portfolio at Queen Mary University of London – other services available include venue hire, group and individual accommodation during the summer and performance and event space year-round – including the Octagon and art-deco Great Hall across QMUL’s campuses.
